2016 WU17 Hockey Challenge: Day 2 Recap

Day 2 of the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont. featured four games on the schedule. Canada Black, Canada Red, The United States and Russia were victorious on Monday.

 

CANADA BLACK (VALLATI) 5; CZECH REPUBLIC 4
Luka Burzan (Moose Jaw Warriors) scored with 8:30 remaining in the third period to put Team Canada Black over the Czech Republic 5-4 at the Essar Centre. Canada allowed a 3-1 lead to slip away before Burzan connected with Eli Zummack (Spokane Chiefs) and Tyler Popowich (Vancouver Giants) for the game winner. Allan McShane (Erie Otters) had a pair of goals for Canada Black while Chase Wouters (Saskatoon Blades) added a goal and an assist and Aidan Dudas (Owen Sound Attack) recorded a pair of helpers. Eric Florchuk (Victoria Royals) also scored for Canada Black as they improve to 1-1 in the tournament following a loss on Sunday. Ondrej Pavel scored twice for the Czech Republic in the loss while Tomas Koblizek recorded three assists.
GAME SUMMARY

 

UNITED STATES 3; CANADA WHITE 2
Joel Farabee scored his second game winning goal in as many days as The United States edged Team Canada White 3-2. Farabee scored on the power play with 5:08 left in the third period as the Americans improved to 2-0 in the tournament. The USA went 3-for-9 on the power play, outshooting Canada White 33-23. Jacob Semik and Blade Jenkins also scored for the Americans while Tristen Nielsen (Calgary Hitmen) and Elijah Brown (Seattle Thunderbirds) responded for Canada White.
GAME SUMMARY

 

RUSSIA 2; FINLAND 0
Daniil Isaev recorded a 37-save shutout as Russia blanked Finland at the John Rhodes Community Centre. Outshot 37-21, the Russians prevailed on goals from Pavel Koreshkov and Egor Sokolov. Russia improves to 2-0 in the tournament.GAME SUMMARY

 

CANADA RED (GUEST, DAMIANI) 4; SWEDEN 3
Billy Moskal’s (London Knights) third period goal stood as the difference maker as Team Canada Red edged Sweden 4-3 at the Essar Centre. Canada Red outshot Sweden 31-22, getting goals from Moskal, Serron Noel (Oshawa Generals), Ty Dellandrea (Flint Firebirds) and Riley Stotts (Swift Current Broncos) while Riley Damiani (Kitchener Rangers) recorded a pair of assists. Adam Bokvist, Carl Jakobsson and Lukas Wernblom had goals for Sweden.
