Kitchener Rangers announce signing of Jonathan Yantsis

The Kitchener Rangers announced today that free agent forward Jonathan Yantsis has committed to an Ontario Hockey League standard player agreement with the club.

The 6’2, 186lb Markham, Ontario native has spent time this season with the Markham Waxers of the Eastern AAA Hockey League. In 25 games played, he registered 19 goals – tied for a league high – and ranked fourth in the league in points with 31 (19G, 21A).

He dressed for one game with the Newmarket Hurricanes (OJHL) where he tallied two assists and four PIMs.

Yantsis, a 1999 born player, went undrafted in the Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection before joining the Rangers.

“Jonathan is a late bloomer that went undrafted, but has shown he has the tools to make the jump to the OHL,” said Kitchener Rangers assistant general manager/coach Mike McKenzie.

“His size and offensive ability stood out to us as a staff while watching Jonathan play midget hockey, and we are looking forward to seeing him develop as a player here in Kitchener as a member of our organization.”
