Six Kitchener Rangers’ prospects named to 2017 OHL Gold Cup rosters

Six Kitchener Rangers prospects taken in Saturday’s OHL Priority Selection have been chosen to partake in the 2017 OHL Gold Cup to be held May 3-7, 2017 in Kitchener.

The Rangers’ prospects will suit up as follows:

D Grayson Ladd Chatham-Kent Cyclones 1st round; 13th overall
Team GTHL (Red)
D Michael Vukojevic Mississauga Rebels 2nd round; 33rd overall
LW Mike Petizian Mississauga Reps 5th round; 92nd overall
Team HEO (Maroon)
D Simon Mack Selects Academy 7th round; 132nd overall
Team HNO (Yellow)
C Carter Tresoor Kenora Thistles 6th round; 112th overall
Team OMHA (Black)
C Matt Gordon Guelph Gryphons 3rd round; 58th overall


Eight teams will compete in the OHL Gold Cup, including the five above-mentioned as well as Team GTHL (Royal Blue), Team NOHA (Green) and Team OMHA (White).

The OHL Gold Cup is an annual showcase event featuring top under-16 talent in Ontario. As part of the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, select players from the OHL Gold Cup will be invited to attend the National Under-17 Selection Camp, where they will have a chance to compete with other top talent from across Canada and potentially earn a spot at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

From the 2016 event, 28 OHL Gold Cup alumni were selected to play for Hockey Canada at the World Under-17’s – the largest Ontario contingent since the inception of the three Canadian team system.
