“Returning Steve to Kitchener is in his best interest at this time,” McPhee said. “He gained valuable experience while playing in the NHL for three months and at the recent World Junior Championships. In order for Steve to more fully develop, he needs to earn plenty of ice time in juniors and pursue a championship at that level. We’re extremely pleased that he’s a part of our organization and expect him to be a bright part of our future.”

Eminger will arrive in Kitchener at some point tonight but will not dress for the game vs Plymouth.

The Capitals selected Eminger with their first pick, 12th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft. The Woodbridge, Ont., native played in 17 of Washington’s 28 games before participating in the World Junior Championships, earning two assists and accumulating 24 penalty minutes.

Last season the 6′ 2″, 200-pound blueliner was named Kitchener’s most outstanding defenseman after leading the Rangers with a plus-24 plus-minus rating, ranking second on the team in assists (39) and tied for fourth in points (58). He was named to the Ontario Hockey League’s second All-Star team and posted two assists and 10 penalty minutes in four postseason games. In 168 career games with Kitchener, Eminger collected 27 goals, 79 assists (106 points) and 233 penalty minutes.
