ROY & BENOIT LEAD RANGERS TO WIN

Kitchener, ON: Playing front of a season high crowd of 6,136 the Rangers were able to hold off the visiting Barrie Colts for a 6-4 win.

In the first period the Rangers jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a powerplay goal by Andre Benoit at 9:43.

Derek Roy gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead with another powerplay goal at 17:55. Roy added his second of the game :18 seconds later to make the score 3-0 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period the Rangers kept pouring it on as Petr Kanko beat Colts goalie Paulo Colaiacovo just :34 seconds into the period to make it a 4-0 game.

Just over three minutes later Andre Benoit connected on his 15th of the season at 3:48, again on the powerplay to push the lead to 5-0.

The Colts answered back with two goals of their own from Eric Himelfarb and Malcolm MacMillan to cut the Rangers lead to 5-2.

The period was cut short when referee Matt Parlette was forced to leave the game after being hit in the face with a puck behind the Colts net.

In the third the Colts struck for two goals in a span of two minutes to cut the Rangers lead to 5-4.

Michael Richards sealed the win with a bullet to the top corner to give the Rangers a 6-4 edge, his 22nd of the season.

The Rangers next home game is Friday, January 24TH, 2003 vs the Erie Otters. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
