Final: Rangers 1, Spitfires 7

Windsor,ON.: The Rangers (17-19-3-0) visited the Spitfires (18-19-2-1) for their third meeting of the season on Sunday afternoon. The Spitfires extended their win streak to three in a 7-1 win over the Rangers.

Greg Meireles was the lone goalscorer for the Rangers, scoring his 17th of the season. Luke Richardson took the loss, stopping 21 of 28 shots.


Windsor opened the scoring at 7:52 of the first period on a Daniel D’Amico powerplay goal (16) with the assists coming from Cole Purboo and Tyler Angle.

Just a minute later, Jean-Luc Foudy (2) drove wide and walked in to put the puck past Richardson to give the Spitfires a 2-0 lead at 8:52. Assists were awarded to Kyle McDonald and Louka Henault.

After 20 minutes, the Rangers led in shots 12-10.

At 6:30 of the second period, Mathew MacDougall (9) scored on cross-ice feed from Luke Boka. Jordan Frasca also had an assist on the goal, to extend their lead to 3-0.

Nathan Staios (2) buried the rebound at 15:15 to give the Spitfires a 4-0 lead. Foudy earned his second point of the day with the assist. Will Cuylle also assisted the goal.

Windsor tallied their fifth of the matinee, on a MacDougall feed to Boka (5) for his second point of the game at 19:36.

The period would end with the Spitfires outshooting the Rangers, 24-16.

Greg Meireles scored his 17th of the season on the powerplay, at 2:50 of the third making it 5-1. Riley Damiani and Joseph Garreffa were helpers on the goal.

A former member of the Kitchener Rangers, Chase Campbell, scored his sixth of the year on a nice setup from Staios and McDonald at 5:13.

The Rangers were unable to capitalize on a McDonald high-sticking penalty.

Windsor extended their lead at 12:41 of the third, on a tip from Tyler Angle (11) off a low shot by Louka Henault making it 7-1.

The final shots on goal were 28-27 for Windsor.

The Rangers next home game is on Friday, January 11 at 7:30 pm versus the Guelph Storm. The next road game for Kitchener is on Wednesday, January 9 at 7:00 pm versus the Owen Sound Attack.
