Final: Rangers 2, Firebirds 7

Kitchener, ON.: The Flint Firebirds (9-36-3-0) were visiting the Rangers (20-22-3-0) for Don Cameron potato night at The Aud. Unfortunately for the Kitchener faithful, the night didn’t go as planned. Flint scored four goals on Luke Richardson and another three on Lucas Pfeil to win 7-2.

Donovan Sebrango and Reid Valade were the lone goalscorers for the blueshirts in the loss.

Flint’s Jack Wismer opened up the scoring on Friday night. A pass by Ethan Keppen from behind Luke Richardson’s net ended up on the stick of number seven who was alone in front of the net. Wismer capitalized on the opportunity and scored his 9th goal of the season to make it 1-0 at 2:19.

At 4:12, Cole Cameron took an interference penalty and 35 seconds into Flint’s first powerplay, Ty Dellandrea scored to put the Firebirds ahead 2-0.

17 seconds after Dallandrea’s goal, at 5:04, Ethan Keppen made it 3-0 for the visitors.

Flint extended their lead when a rebound came off the pad of Richardson right to an unmarked Even Vierling who scored his third goal of the season at 12:19 to make it 4-0.

After the fourth goal, Lucas Pfeil came in to replace Luke Richardson.

A turnover at the Rangers offensive blueline lead to a breakaway for Wismer who deked around Pfeil to score his second of the game and put the Firebirds up 5-0 at 18:44.

The first 20 minutes would end with the Rangers ahead in shots 20-15.

At 14:17 of the second period, Joseph Garreffa took his first penalty of the season and served two minutes for closing his hand on the puck.

Flint opened up their lead even more at 16:24 — just seconds after the Garreffa penalty came to an end — when Vierling scored his second of the game to make it 6-0.

The period would end with the Rangers up in shots 35-20.

1:13 into the 3rd period, Hunter Holmes beat Pfeil and made it 7-0 for the Firebirds.

The Rangers got on the board at 8:51 of the 3rd when Jonathan Yantsis and Greg Meireles set up Donovan Sebrango for his third goal of the season that brought the Rangers within six, 7-1.

Reid Valade made it 7-2 at 15:13 and that’s how the game would end.

The Rangers outshot the Firebirds 53-29.
