Hawel signs AHL deal with Laval

Overaged Kitchener Rangers forward Liam Hawel has signed a one-year, one-way deal for the 2020-21 season with the AHL’s Laval Rocket, affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens.

Hawel, 21, served as an alternate captain last season and capped off his overage year second in Rangers scoring with 71 points (23-48–71) in 54 appearances. The Arnprior, Ont. native suited up for 313 OHL contests over his five-year career and amassed 233 points (87-146–233) over his time spent with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, Guelph Storm and Rangers.

The 6-foot-4 winger reached career highs in goals (37) and points (78) in Guelph over the 2018-2019 season and led the Storm to an OHL Championship with 13 points (4-9–13) in 24 playoff games. He was a fourth round pick of the Dallas Stars at the 2017 NHL Draft.
