Rangers alumnus donates $53,000 to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region announced today that it received a donation of $53,000 from Kitchener Rangers alumnus Jeff Skinner for their ongoing efforts against the COVID-19 pandemic. The donation is a reference to his #53 jersey number that he wore during his time with the Rangers.

Skinner’s financial support will help The Food Bank of Waterloo Region ensure there are no service disruptions and that vulnerable families have access to the food they need to stay healthy and nourished during the current health crisis.

“Jeff’s donation will help provide more than 150,000 meals in our community,” said Wendi Campbell, Chief Executive Officer of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.

“Through emergency food hampers, shelter and residential programs, and outreach programs supporting our most vulnerable citizens, thousands of pounds of food are being procured and distributed.”

Rangers Chief Operating Officer Steve Bienkowski described the donation as an amazing gesture towards a community and fanbase that supported him during his playing days with the team.

“The fact that Jeff reached out wanting to give back to this community says a lot about his character,” said Bienkowski.

“We’re very proud of the selflessness and generosity shown by a special alum.”
