Kitchener, Ont. – Joseph Serpa scored the lone goal for the Rangers and Jackson Parsons made 29 saves on 32 shots but the Mississauga Steelheads earned a 3-1 victory Saturday at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

After three great scoring attempts from the Rangers to begin the contest, Mason Zebeski started the scoring for the Steelheads at 9:24 of the first period on a hard drive to the net. The first attempt on goal was stopped by Parsons, but Zebeski’s follow-up was batted across the goal line for the lone tally of the opening frame. Shots were 15-8 in favour of the Rangers.

The Rangers tied the game on a tic-tac-toe passing play while on the man-advantage at 11:26 of the middle period. From the point, Hunter Brzustewicz fed a pass to Carson Rehkopf at the left circle. Rehkopf quickly made a pass to Joseph Serpa at the right circle who ended up scoring glove-side. However, the Steelheads regained the lead with just 19.8 seconds remaining when Zakary Lavoie entered the zone on the right-wing wall and scored shortside while shorthanded.

Kitchener led in shots 22-16 but was trailing 2-1 after two periods.

Mississauga increased the lead to two at 9:18 of the final frame when Liam Spencer made a backhand pass from the left circle to Luke Misa in the high slot who walked in and found the back of the net to make it 3-1.

The Rangers hit two posts in the final five minutes of the contest but were unable to strike. Mississauga used 16 shots in the third period to earn a 32-28 final shot advantage over the Rangers. Kitchener was 1-for-6 on the man-advantage and were a was 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Carson Rehkopf was named the game’s second star.
