Today the Kitchener Rangers welcomed three new prospects to the organization during the 2019 OHL U-18 Draft on Wednesday night.
With the first round, 12th overall selection the Rangers selected goaltender, Diego D’Alessandro of the Don Mills Flyers MAAA. In the second round, 32nd overall the Rangers selected left winger, Andrew Aboumossa from the Rockland Nationals MAAA. In the third and final round, 52nd overall the Rangers selected defenceman, Noah Prudhomme of the Kingston Frontenacs MAAA.
Wednesday marked the third annual OHL Under-18 Priority Selection which targets the top 2001 and 2002-born Midget AAA players from programs across the province.
“There is no specific timeline on the development of a hockey player,” said Joe Birch, OHL Senior Director of Hockey Development and Special Events. “The OHL Under-18 Priority Selection benefits players who have taken advantage of Midget AAA programs to further their overall hockey development.”
The concept for the OHL Under-18 Priority Selection was developed in 2017 with full support from Hockey Canada’s three Ontario Branches including the Ontario Hockey Federation (OHF), Hockey Eastern Ontario (HEO), and Hockey Northwestern Ontario (HNO), to assist in the growth of Midget hockey and provide further opportunities for players at different stages of their hockey development.
