1ST STAR: MATTHEW STRUTHERS (NORTH BAY BATTALION) – 3G, 2A
North Bay Battalion overage forward Matthew Struthers exploded for five points on Monday as the Troops went 5-for-6 on the power play to defeat the visiting Soo Greyhounds 7-5. Struthers’ hat-trick came in a span of 20 minutes starting in the final minute of the second period and ending with 1:22 left in the third. He also picked up assists on goals by Brandon Coe and Brad Chenier as the Battalion scored at least seven goals for a second straight game. A 19-year-old from Milton, Ont., Struthers has 10 points (5-5–10) through seven games this season. He’s currently in his fifth OHL campaign split between Owen Sound and North Bay. Struthers attending rookie camp with the Montreal Canadiens last month.
2ND STAR: ARTHUR KALIYEV (HAMILTON BULLDOGS) – 2G, 2A
Los Angeles Kings prospect Arthur Kaliyev had another big game, scoring twice while adding two assists as the Hamilton Bulldogs defeated visiting Barrie 7-5. Kaliyev scored on the power play 6:48 into the second period, saving a highlight reel lacrosse-style goal for the third period to give the Bulldogs a 5-4 lead. Kaliyev now has eight points in his last two games and a total of 19 (10-9–19) over nine games this season. The third-year winger was a second round pick of the Los Angeles Kings this past summer. He’s on a six-game point streak.
3RD STAR: LIAM HAWEL (KITCHENER RANGERS) – 3G
Kitchener Rangers forward Liam Hawel scored twice in the opening three minutes of play on Monday, finishing off his Thanksgiving hat-trick four minutes into the third period as the Blue shirts defeated the Sudbury Wolves 7-3. Hawel is riding a six-game point streak and has 14 points (5-9–14) through nine games this season. The former Dallas Stars prospect is in his fifth OHL season, having spent past time with the Soo Greyhounds and Guelph Storm as he raised the Robertson Cup as an OHL champion last spring. Hawel attending training camp with the Montreal Canadiens last month.
