Help kids in Waterloo Region play hockey by donating used equipment

KITCHENER-WATERLOO, ON (January 13, 2012) – The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club and Sun Life Financial are asking you to help us collect used hockey equipment and give back to the game many boys and girls in Waterloo Region love to play.

The Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program assists with the collection and purchase of hockey equipment for youth who require support in order to play organized hockey. All monetary proceeds go to Donna’s Kids, a program run by the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association.

For the rest of the month of January, we’re encouraging people to bring their used hockey equipment to several sites in the Waterloo Region. We’d appreciate it if you would announce that people can donate equipment at the following locations, Monday to Friday, during regular business hours:
The Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex, East Ave., Kitchener (front lobby)

Activa Sportsplex, 135 Lennex Lewis Way, Kitchener (hockey office)

Sun Life Financial, 22 Frederick St., Suite 400, Kitchener (4th floor)
Sun Life Financial, 94 Bridgeport Rd. E. at Weber St., Waterloo (lobby)

Century Group Financial Solutions, 508 Riverbend Drive, Suite 102, Kitchener (lobby)

Sun Life Financial, Westmount Rd. and Erb St., Waterloo (lobby)

Forbes Motors, 165 Weber St. S., Waterloo

In addition to this equipment drive, the sponsorship agreement between the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club and Sun Life Financial affirms that every time the Kitchener Rangers score a goal at home, Sun Life makes a monetary donation to the program.

Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program
Sun Life Financial is the official sponsor of the Kids In Gear program. Originally launched in August 2010, this initiative supports efforts to collect and buy hockey equipment for kids in the Waterloo region who may not have the funds to get involved in hockey. Used equipment is collected and sold to a local sports store for credits towards the purchase of new equipment for the Kitchener Minor Hockey Association’s (KMHA) Donna’s Kids Program. The program also provides financial support to help kids pay the fees so they can play hockey. The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club partners with Sun Life to help promote this program throughout the year.
