Rangers host Wolves and Greyhounds – Special Pre-Game ceremony Friday for KMHA

The Kitchener Rangers, with early wins over the Guelph Storm and Sarnia Sting, are off to a perfect 2-0-0 start to kick off the 2001-2002 Ontario Hockey League season.

r

Scott Dickie backstopped the Rangers in 4-1 and 8-3 victories last week. The 8-3 win at home over the Sting was played before a standing room crowd of 5,725 at The Aud. Derek Roy led all skaters in the first two games with five points, with Mike Amodeo and Petr Hemsky each adding 3 goals. Roy and Marcus Smith lead the plus/minus category, each possessing a +5, which has them tied for 3rd in the OHL.

r

This weekend, the Rangers look to extend their undefeated streak to three games as they play host to the Bert Templeton-led Sudbury Wolves on Friday night. Game time is 7:30pm at The Aud.

r

Pre-game festivites get underway Friday at 7:20pm with a special ceremony dedicated to the Rangers $1,000,000 contribution to Kitchener Minor Hockey. This will be a special night to celebrate a new era in Kitchener Minor Hockey and at the same time, recognize tradition. Special guests will include Kitchener Mayor Carl Zehr, Rangers President Steve Bienkowski, Kitchener Minor Hockey President Tom Graham, as well as many KMHA Jr. Ranger players and teams.

r

Also Friday, Newstalk 570 and Ziggys Cycle will be giving away a mountain bike.

r

On Sunday, the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds come to town with newly hired Coach & General Manager Craig Hartsburg. Hartsburg is a former NHL player as well as the former Anaheim Mighty Ducks Coach. Game time is 6:30pm at The Aud. The Greyhounds line-up features Waterloo-native Paul Ballantyne, who was the 6th round selection of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft.

r

The Rangers also welcome the championship-winning Kitchener Panthers baseball team Sunday night. The Panthers will be honoured during a pre-game ceremony for their Inter-County Championship victory this summer.
