RANGERS OUT LAST ATTACK IN SHOOTOUT WIN

Jordan DeKort made 31 saves and stopped all three attempts in a shootout to lead the Kitchener Rangers to a 2-1 win over the Owen Sound Attack on Saturday night. Ryan MacInnis scored in regulation for the Rangers, while Justin Bailey recorded the winner in the shootout.

Kyle Hope opened the scoring for the Attack, potting his 14th of the year midway through the first period. The overager chased a puck inside the Rangers’ blueline and lifted a shot high over the glove hand of Jordan DeKort, with an assist from Holden Cook.

Owen Sound led shots on goal 13 – 9 in the first period.

The Rangers got on the board early in the second period, capitalizing on a power play opportunity. Mason Kohn carried the puck into the Attack zone, but was knocked down at the boards, allowing Ryan MacInnis to jump on the loose puck. The rookie fired a backhand shot between the pads of Owen Sound starter Brandon Hope for his 13th of the year. Freshman rearguard Frank Hora also assisted on the play.

Kitchener out-shot the Attack 18-5 in the middle frame.

Neither team could break a 1-1 deadlock in the third, sending the contest to overtime. Owen Sound led shots on goal 10-8 in the final 20 minutes.

The extra frame was scoreless, leaving the game to be decided in a shootout. The Attack out-fired Kitchener 4-3 in overtime.
Justin Bailey scored the lone goal in the shootout, lifting the Rangers to a 2-1 win. DeKort stopped all three Owen Sound shooters to pick up the victory.
