The Kitchener Rangers came away last weekend with 2 points in 2 games. This weekend, the Rangers play 3 games in 4 days. Thursday, they head to Sarnia to take on the Sting, wrapping up the weekend with Friday and Sunday night home games against the Windsor Spitfires and Owen Sound Attack. Game time Friday is 7:30pm, while Sunday’s game gets underway at 6:30pm.

THE STORY

The Kitchener Rangers came away last weekend with 2 points in 2 games, to give them a record of 6-3-3. Friday night, would-be OHL Player-of-the-Week Brad Boyes added 3 points as the Erie Otters defeated the Rangers 4-2, before 5,264 fans at The Aud. Sunday, the Rangers easily handled Rick Nash and the London Knights with a commanding 9-3 win, before 4,035 fans.

Steve Eminger led the Rangers over the weekend, collecting 6 points in the 2 games. Eminger, who turns 18 on October 31, collected 5 of those points in the 9-3 win over London. Eminger, a third year defender, now has sole possession of 2nd place on the Ranger scoring list, with 11 points (3-8). 2001 Import Selection Petr Kanko leds all Rangers with 15 points (4-11). Both Eminger and Kanko are highly ranked for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

This weekend, the Rangers will play 3 games in 4 days. Thursday, the team travels to Sarnia for a 7:30pm match-up with the Sting. The Rangers defeated the Sting in their only other match-up this season, an 8-3 thumping before 5,725 fans at the Ranger home opener. After 7 home games, the Rangers have averaged 4,770 fans per game, ar9.4% increase over the previous season.Last year, after 7 home games, the Rangers had averaged 4,359 fansrper contest.

Friday night, the Rangers welcome the Windsor Spitfires to town. The Spits roster includes 3 NHL first round picks. Jason Spezza, the 2nd overall selection of the 2001 NHL Draft, is joined by Tim Gleason, a 2001 selection, and Steve Ott, who was selected in 2000. Both Spezza and Gleason are selections of the Ottawa Senators, while Ott was chosen by the Dallas Stars. Game time for the Friday tilt is 7:30pm at The Aud.

Friday is also CHYM-FM “Phrase That Pays” night. One lucky fan will win $1,000 cash from CHYM.

Sunday night, the Owen Sound Attack come to the Aud for a 6:30pm match-up with the Rangers. The Attack have made several trades since the season opened, including the acquisition of Kitchener native John Jarram. Recent trades have seen them pickup overagers Brian McGratton, from Mississauga, and Mike Jacobsen, from the Sudbury Wolves.

Sunday is the second of three 105.3 KOOL-FM Workforce Promotion nights. One lucky fan will win a DVD player from Steve’s TV … also Sunday, the second annual “MasterCard Priceless Youth Hockey Equipment Drive” takes place. A raffle ticket will be handed to each fan who donates equipment. One ticket will be drawn and that fan will win a Bobby Orr autographed picture!
