Chief Operating Officer and Governor
Steve joined the Rangers in May, 2002 as Chief Operating Officer & Governor after serving six years on the Rangers’ Board of Directors Executive Committee as its volunteer President and Financial Officer. Steve also served as Chairman for the 2008 MasterCard Memorial Cup.
Steve is responsible for the overall operation of the franchise and serves as its OHL Governor. He is also a two-time recipient of the OHL’s Executive of the Year award 2002-03 and 2011-12.
The Oshawa native first joined the Rangers as a player during the 1979-80 season after graduating from the All-Ontario Champion and Canadian silver medalist St. Michaels Majors. During the 1980-81 season, Steve was a member of the Rangers’ first OHL championship and Memorial Cup team.
He subsequently graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University where he was a member of the school’s first OUA championship team and received All-Canadian honours in hockey. He received his Chartered Accountant designation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1986.
Prior to joining the Rangers full-time, Steve enjoyed a successful career in business, holding positions of Vice President of Ernst & Young, and Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of an international automotive parts manufacturer.
Steve is a strong believer in contributing to the community and has been involved in many local charitable efforts. He received the Order of St. John from the Governor General of Canada in recognition of his many years of volunteer work with St. John Ambulance. In 2011, he was also selected as the Citizen of the Year for Kitchener-Waterloo by the Lions Club of Kitchener.
Steve resides in Waterloo.
