Training Camp Player Report

Abu-Ali, Adam – Adam is a hard-nosed high energy player who plays hard every shift. He is a strong skater who also shows he can contribute offensively. He sees the ice well and makes the players he plays with better by finding ways to get them the puck.

Campbell, Brock – Brock has excellent speed and is a tireless worker. He plays with a real edge and has shown his willingness to be a physical force in both Junior B and at the Rangers Spring Camp. Brock uses his speed to create pressure in both ends of the rink.

Campagnolo, Adam – Adam is a hard working player who is coming off a good rookie season with the Waterloo Siskins. Adam has shown an ability to score by using his quick release to go along with his above average hockey sense.

Catenacci, Michael – Michael is entering his overage year and will be expected to take on a major leadership role. His style of play has endeared him to the Rangers fans. His tremendous puck pursuit makes him a constant threat to create turnovers and he has demonstrated an ability to score big goals.

Clampitt, Brett – Brett is a hard-working, hard-hitting player who prides himself in his work ethic. Brett likes to play the game with an edge and uses his style of play to agitate the opponent. Having played Junior B last season, Brett is looking to take his style of play to the next level.

Crescenzi, Andrew  – Andrew is returning for his 3rd season  and he continues to improve each year. Andrew is a big, powerful player who possesses hockey sense and a good touch. Andrew’s solid play resulted in him being signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs this past season.

Delaurier, Jordan – Jordan is a big winger that combines a physical brand of play with an excellent work ethic. Jordan had a strong Spring Camp and showed he could also contribute offensively.

Faksa, Radek – Radek combines speed and skill to be a constant threat. He is a strong skater and has excellent puck protection skills that he uses to drive the net. He is a highly rated prospect for the 2012 NHL draft.

Fanelli, Ben – Ben missed the entire season last year recovering from a severe injury. He used his recovery time to regain his strength, train for triathlons, and to start the Head Strong program to draw attention to brain injuries. Ben is a pure passer and a strong skater who plays well in both ends of the rink.

Francisco, Brandon – Brandon comes to the Rangers via a trade with Sarnia. He is a highly skilled player who has plenty of offensive upside. He is an excellent puck handler who can combine this with speed and vision to make him a constant threat to score.

Frey, Cass – Cass has a tremendous work ethic. His high energy allows him to put pressure on the opposing team and disrupt their flow of play. Cass was a key member of the Sutherland Cup winning Elmira Sugar Kings.

Genovese, Cory – Cory is a big stay at home defenseman that also has an edge in his game. His strengths are his ability to clear the zone in front of the net and his penalty killing. Cory was relied on as a top penalty killer for the Sutherland Cup Champion Elmira Sugar Kings this past season.

Gibson, John – John plays with confidence and has the unique ability to control his rebounds. His combination of size and athleticism allows him to cover a large part of the net with relative ease. John was a 2nd round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the 2011 NHL Draft.

Gilbert, Jared – Jared is a very reliable, puck-moving defenseman. He has excellent vision and hockey sense that he uses to gain possession of the puck and begin the rush. His strong play helped the Toronto Marlboros capture the 2011 OHL Cup.

Grant, Keli –Keli is a goal scorer who demonstrates natural hockey sense in finding open ice and anticipating the play. He has played a number of games for the Rangers over the last two seasons. This year Keli is looking forward to taking the next step and earning a permanent roster position.

Greer, Clayton – Clayton is a rugged stay at home defenseman. His style of play helps keep the front of the net clear and the opposing team on edge. Clayton was a key member of the Sutherland Cup winning Elmira Sugar Kings.

Hasson, Mike – Mike has proven to be one of the better skaters in the OHL. Last season Mike was used in a number of key penalty killing situations where he was able to use his speed to disrupt quick moving power plays. This year, Mike will be playing hard to fill one of the overage positions.

Higley, Calvin – Calvin is a skilled forward who sees the ice well and has the ability to score. He works hard along the wall and is willing to take the puck to the front of the net. Having played Tier 2 Junior for the past two seasons, Calvin is looking to take the next step in his hockey development with the Rangers.

Jasper, Jonathan – Jonathan is a returning player who continued to improve last season and often played against the other team’s top players. Jonathan used his size and strength to be a very effective shut down defenseman. He will be counted on to play a major role on this year’s defence.

Lesway, Brandon – Brandon is an excellent skater who made a solid impression at the 2011 Spring Camp. His speed allows him to create offence by coming off the wing and taking the puck to the net. Brandon will be an exciting player to watch.

Lopes, Ryan – Ryan has proven to be a good two-way player in the OHL. Last season with the Rangers, Ryan was used in a number of key checking situations against some of the league’s top players. This year Ryan will be playing hard to fill one of the overage positions.

Lorentz, Zachary – Zach is entering his second year with the Rangers and he will be expected to continue to improve on his rookie season. His hockey sense made him a valuable asset last season as he filled in very well when some key players were injured.

Lowry, Chad – Chad is a versatile defenseman who can play a shutdown style and on occasion jump into the rush. Chad played a lot of minutes last year for the Rangers and will be entering his overage year.

Maniccia, Chris – Chris is a skilled player who uses his hockey sense to create chances for both himself and his line mates. He plays the game with determination and he finds a way to either get himself or the puck to the net.

Marcantuoni, Matia – Coming off a solid rookie season, Matia is expected to contribute more offensively in his second season. He is a powerful skater with a hard shot who plays the game at a very high tempo. He enjoys playing a very physical game and taking the puck to the net.

McEneny, Evan – Evan is an offensive minded defenseman who adjusted the defensive part of his game last year as a rookie to become a more complete player. Evan can make a good first pass and has the ability to join the rush. His size allows him to play an effective physical game.

Meighan, Curtis – Curtis is a skilled player who has excellent hockey sense and combines this with a strong work ethic. He can be equally effective on the penalty kill as he can on the power play. He is hard on the puck and finds ways to get the puck to the net.

Melchiori, Julian – Julian is a returning player who showed tremendous improvement last season. This season he will be counted on to be a premier defenseman for the Rangers. Julian is a 3rd round pick of Atlanta (Winnipeg). Julian can make tape to tape passes but can also jump into the rush with ease.

Michalski, Marcus – Marcus plays a solid game in both ends of the rink. He makes a good first pass and then has the skating ability to join in the rush. Marcus has good hockey sense which allows him to see the ice and make smart decisions with the puck.

Ming, Eric – Eric is entering his second year with the team and will be called upon to provide some increased offence. Eric uses his hockey sense to create scoring chances for himself and his teammates. He is a strong skater who plays well in both ends of the rink.

Moylan, Jack – Jack is a big goalie who uses his size to his advantage. He moves well post to post and challenges the shooter to take away the shooting angles. Jack played well at the Rangers 2011 Spring Camp and looks to continue his solid play.

Murphy, Ryan – Ryan was the second highest scoring defenseman in the OHL last season and was drafted in the 1st Round 12th overall by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2011 NHL draft. Ryan’s puck moving ability and his uncanny sense of anticipation make him a constant offensive threat.

Palazzese, Frank – Frank is entering his first season with the Rangers coming over from Kingston in a trade. Frank plays an aggressive game in the crease. He moves well post to post and has good rebound control. Frank will battle to find screen shots and has an excellent work ethic.

Pedersen, Brent – Brent has the tools to become an effective power forward in the OHL. He is a strong skater with size and a heavy shot. Brent has consistently been a goal scorer but can also read the ice well enough to effectively use his teammates.

Prier, Scott – Scott is an intelligent puck-moving defenseman. His safe style of play has made him a very reliable player at the Junior B level. Scott is looking to take the next step in his hockey development by earning a spot with the Kitchener Rangers.

Rieder, Tobias – Tobias is entering his second year and is expected to be a major contributor to the Rangers offence. He is a good two way player who has proven to be a gifted scorer while remaining defensively responsible. Tobias was drafted in the 4th Round, 114th Overall to the Edmonton Oilers at the 2011 NHL draft.

Sol, Cody – Cody is a stay at home defenseman who likes to get involved physically. Cody uses his size to his advantage and has developed into an excellent shutdown defenseman in the OHL. Cody was Atlanta’s (Winnipeg) 5th round pick in the 2009 NHL Draft.

Sterk, Josh – Josh combines an energetic style of play with a high level of hockey sense. He is a tireless worker who plays hard on the puck and has shown an excellent ability to score. Josh is an excellent skater who can use his speed as an asset both offensively and defensively.

Stiliadis, Michael – Michael is a goalie that makes himself look big by staying square to the shooter. He moves well post to post and stays focussed even in traffic. Michael had a sterling 11-0 winning record with Georgetown last season and is looking to earn a job in the Rangers crease this coming winter.

Thomson, Ben –Ben is entering his 3rd year with the Rangers and is expected to contribute more offensively this season.  Ben is a power forward who uses his size and determination to take the puck to the net. His physical play often results in puck possession for his team.

Tugnutt, Jacob – Jacob is a technically sound and very agile goalie.  He is a determined worker who battles hard on every shot. He has proven to have a very good glove and shown great rebound control. His quickness allows Jacob to get out of the crease and play the puck.

Young, Jesse – Jesse played last year for both the Rangers and the Michigan Warriors of the NAHL. Jesse is a hard-working defenseman who likes to combine his
